Lockdowns and Tigers and Bears, Oh My - A Rambling of Truly Chaotic Proportions

Woman in Orange Marmot Tent on Pillar Mountain in Kodiak Alaska

You may not believe it, but a new day is coming. (Or so they say).

Oh hey, welcome back….

It’s been a minute, huh? You guys doing alright? It’s been a rooooooough couple of years. Between pandemics, stock market highs and crashes, wild celebrity divorces and love triangles (Kanye, Kim & Pete anyone?), the international saga of the Suez Canal Stuck Ship, the rollercoaster that was Tiger King, televised courtrooms from #FreeBritney to the Johnny Depp trials….. I’m tired.

So let’s check in. I’m going to chat about me for a quick minute and then we’ll carry right on. In the last 2+ years I may or may not have done the following things:

  • Slipped down the stairs at my parent’s house at least 3 times

  • Graduated college? …via Youtube video (Believe me, that video was so worth the thousands of dollars spent on an education *eye roll )

  • Started taking photography & also design a liiiiittle more seriously (social life? sleep? ahhh haha)

  • Declared my love for peanut butter sandwiches

  • Been medicated, unmedicated, re-medicated, and repeat*

  • Lost another father. That makes two (2) deceased dads. (*see medicated)

  • Flew in tiny planes

  • Got a boyfriend ( ‘Got’ makes it sound like I was fishing in a river, and after a struggle to reel him in, and a bit of elbow grease, I managed to whack him over the head and drag him to shore cheering, “I got one! I got one!” ….That is not at all how it happened.)

  • Watched many sunsets. Watched many sunrises. Watched many rainy days from the comfort of my sterile, covid-free, no-fun-allowed bubble

  • Spent some time in California and committed to the cali-gal lifestyle. I dyed my hair blonde, picked fresh avocados out of a highly bougie, overly decorated, terribly overpriced Whole Foods, fell off a surfboard wayyyy more than once, and spent a good 4 months pretending the rest of the world didn’t exist.

  • Made many new friends, lost others…c’est la vie

  • Curated at least 25 new playlists that are perfect for any and all moods and I will not be elaborating

  • Made a 1000 piece NFT project that took me 500+ hours of work and ended up not releasing it. (We’ve all been there, right?)

  • Worked as a full time engineer on the ocean. You heard me. An engineer. A whole ass engine room to myself, tools galore, carhartts covered in diesel, grease, antifreeze and other really, really, really, bad carcinogens, and the freedom and patriarchy-smashing fulfillment that only comes with squeezing behind a hot generator to open an overboard valve to a tank full of human feces. (I could have saved you from that visual, but I had to live it so at least we can all suffer together).

  • Created a very real, somewhat lucrative freelance/e-commerce business that means I don’t have to work a 9-5 right now

  • Anyway, I could bullet list forever

  • I’m avoiding working so I could just type nonsense for the rest of this post

  • blurrpleribbonsnouttedrhinoceros

Alright, I’m done, promise. My point is, many things have happened, many things haven’t happened, and it almost feels like maybe, just maybe, we’re on the tail end of it (don’t quote me on that if I’m wrong folks). And I hope you’re doing alright. That wherever you are, whatever true crime documentary you’re watching, with whichever baggy sweatpants got you through the pandemic… that you’re okay. And that you can walk outside and breathe some fresh air - or smog filled air for my friends in LA - and know that things can only go up from here. That the last 2+ years sucked a fat one, but that it forged us together in a truly unforgettable fever dream.

So, with that in mind, enjoy your coming weekend, hug someone you love, and start planning your next adventure, cause life is just around the corner!
