The Roaring 20's - The 20 Things I’ve Learned in 20 years
It's my birthday today so I'm commemorating the moment with an introspective post. It's the "The 20 Things I've Learned in 20 years" post. You ready?
- Don't worry so much. Life does not get any easier by you worrying. Stop worrying. It's not worth it.
- Call your mother often. She knows much more than you do. A hell of a lot more actually.
- Eat good food. Life is too short to stress about how your body looks. Own it.
- It's okay to be obsessed with yourself. If you don't hype yourself, no one else will. It's okay.
- Give compliments freely. Compliments are one of the things you can give away while still gaining something for yourself. Plus, you might make someone's day.
- There is no timeline. You're life does not have to follow a flowchart. And there's no pressure to have things out of the way. The only one stressing about it is you.
- If you're not happy, change it. Happiness should always be the goal. If you're not happy right now, today, change the situation. Life is too short to be unhappy.
- Do something that scares you everyday.
- Take yourself out on dates often. Wine and dine yourself sometime. It's actually really rewarding.
- Be passionate in all that you do. Everything. And I do mean everything.
- Be kind. Always. Why would you waste your time, or anyone else's, being mean. It doesn't get you anywhere.
- Love your family. You will never ever regret this one. Love them endlessly. Who knows when you'll see them next.
- Travel often. It will open your mind and your heart. Meeting new people, seeing new cultures, letting go of day-to-day concerns. It's all good. Tudo bem.
- It's okay to not have a plan. It's actually quite freeing. Some of my favorite memories came from spontaneity. You won't often regret it.
- People are awesome. Make friends with them and love them freely. You don't have a friend quota or anything. Meeting more people won't make you love the older ones any less.
- If it doesn't spark joy, get rid of it. Take it from my mother. Declutter your life. Of things, of people, of ideas. If they don't spark joy, they're not important.
- Forgive easily. Some people will let you down. That's okay.
- Be honest in all you do. Don't deceive anyone. You should be proud of who you are.
- Be content with sadness. It happens. It's okay. It will pass. Just don't wallow in it.
- Today is special. This is the most important one to me. Don't wait for your birthday or christmas or a vacation or friends or a boyfriend, or bullshit excuses for you to celebrate. Buy yourself fancy lingerie and dance in it. Today is the most important day of your life.
